Being Grown Up

If you follow me on twitter, you may have seen our big news - next Thursday, Jake and I will be closing on our first house! We've been hunting for the perfect spot for a long while now - since November - and just when we gave up hope, the perfect place fell into our arms! We'll be relocating to West Asheville, which is known as the "hip place" to be. While we'll definitely miss the beautiful North side of town, we're super excited to have a place of our own.

Our house is an awesome little cottage built in 1916 - TONS of great character (I mean, it has a clawfoot tub, how could it get any better?), a beautiful fenced in yard, and one of the best parts? I get my own outdoor studio - complete with wood burning woodstove and rain barrels! Almost 400 square feet of space! I'm very excited because it's going to give me a chance to finally give natural dyeing a chance. I'm planning on growing my own dye plants in a little plot right beside the studio. Can't wait to experiment! The woman who sold us the house has done a fantastic job keeping the house in great shape, and she's a master gardener who's left us an amazing yard to work in. I'll post more photos once we've gotten moved in, unpacked and it's all decorated, but here are a few to whet your appetite! I can't wait to sit on our new porch a week from today and listen to the evening thunderstorms that have been hitting us almost daily!

These awesome stumps have succulents planted in them and sit right outside the door to the studio

the master bedroom - check out that mantle! original to the house - almost 100 years old!

a shot of the cool split log fence that lines the whole yard

the front of the house, which was, at one time, the back of the house

So just a few photos to give you an idea of our new house! I didn't include photos of most of the inside, mainly because I want to wait until it's all decorated and "ours". I can't believe we'll be moving in a week from today!
