Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful time ringing in 2013 - I know I did! 2012 was a fairly good year - we bought our first house, celebrated 3 years of marriage, and started to feel like "real" grownups. I'm looking forward to 2013 - I turn 30, I'm hoping for a career change (more on that later), and think we'll start to feel even more grown up - I think this year's going to be big for that!
As I reflect back on the past year and everything that's happened, I thought it would be fun to take a look at my projects from 2012. I missed my goal of 12 sweaters by just two - which I'm really proud of. When I set a goal of 12 sweaters in a year, I thought it was doable - and I still think it is. From about May - September I didn't do much knitting due to moving into the house, and dealing with the death of my grandmother. For some reason, that made me loose my knitting motivation. So I'm happy with 10. Other than sweaters, I didn't make too much else. Some of the things below I haven't blogged about yet, and I still have another sweater that's a gift that I don't have pictured because I haven't given it yet.
It's so fun to see everything in one place - really makes me happy to know I created so many things this year.
This year, I've come up with some knitting goals I'd like to accomplish. I've decided to keep my goals simple and not put a whole lot of pressure on myself this year.
- No new yarn (unless I run out mid-project, or we go on vacation and I get souvenir yarn)
- No purchasing any new patterns! This is, of course, a little flexible. But I really need to use what I already have - a plethora of books & PDFs.
- Focus on one skein projects. I have so many single skeins that I need to use up!
- Be more confident. This goes for knitting in general and in my own designs. I have at least 3 original patterns that need to be finished and written up - I just need to have confidence in them and get them out.
- More lace. I didn't knit much lace this year and I really miss it!
That's really about it for me. I plan on just enjoying the year and am very excited to see what it has in store for me!
my scarf made the photo collage! yay!
ReplyDeletethe only thing better would have been a photo of you wearing it!
DeleteLooks like you had a pretty good knitting year to me. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! I'm happy with it and have given the sweaters I made myself a lot of use :)
DeleteOnly ten!?! They are so beautiful and wearable, it's a wonder you accomplished so much while moving and fixing up your new home! Your goals are admirable, but I just couldn't use up the stash. I think part of the problem is that I have a lot of yarn I do not really like that I got on sale when I was a new knitter, or was given. My goal is to use my recent yarn purchases this year- much more doable.
ReplyDeleteI have a similar problem - I have lots of yarn that I will never use. I've tried to give some of it to my sister, who is just learning how to knit, but I know she will only want so much! Most of my nicer yarn has been purchased in the past couple of years and while I have a couple of sweaters worth, a lot of it is single or double skeins, so hopefully I can focus on getting some of those used up.
Delete10 sweaters is pretty amazing in my book.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :)
DeleteIt is fun to see a year worth of projects all at once. It's amazing how many awesome things we creative types are able to produce over the course of 12 months. I think your goals for 2013 are wonderful and I look forward to watching you post your progress!
ReplyDeleteIt really is amazing - especially you! I was marveling the other day at all you were able to create. I so wish I had your sewing skills!
DeleteHappy New Year, Jennifer! I'm glad you had a good time ringing in the new year :) we were basically sick all month so I totally feel like we missed out (I'm just getting caught up on my blog reading now - loved your Days of Christmas series). Your no-buying-new-yarn goal is one of mine for 2013 as well - I just hope I can stick with it!! It's so great to see all your finished projects in one spot - love your Aidez. I look forward to reading and seeing what you work on in 2013!
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you Rachel! Hope you're all getting to feeling better - being sick over the holidays is no fun! I'm reeeeeally going to have to try hard to not buy any new yarn! One of the Groupons for Asheville last week was $15 for $30 worth of yarn and I didn't buy it - first step! Good luck! Can't wait to see what you create this year!
DeleteWow, what a great year! You made so many gorgeous things! You should be totally proud. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm very happy with it all :)
