Hemmed

Sticking to a goal of trying new things, I decided to try a knitted hem. I had a few skeins of Berroco Vintage Chunky laying around, and a color work chart I drew up a few months ago, so I figured I throw them all together and see what came out. 

I'm very pleasantly surprised. At first, I thought I'd make a cowl. The chunky is really warm, and very soft, so I figured it would be perfect for a winter cowl. But as I knitted, I knew this was destined to become a hat. A hat with just the right amount of slouch, a vintage inspired color scheme, and bulky enough to keep your head super warm. This is what came off my needles.

Even with the hem instead of ribbing, the hat has a wonderful amount of stretch, and would stretch enough to fit Jake's head, but still fits mine snugly.

I have a few more ideas I'd like to work up using this color chart, so this hat pattern will be part of an e-book I hope to release in the next month or so.

I just love the look of the knitted hem! I foresee using this technique quite a bit in the future.
